This
picture shows the organ as it was at Grazeley. In the process of dismantling
we had hoped to find something of the history of the instrument.
There appears to be no architectural connection
between the church and the organ, leading to the theory that the organ
was not originally built for Grazeley, but was bought in. It might have
come from an exhibition, or even have previously been somewhere else.
Another curiosity is that the internal woodwork
is of an exceptionally high quality, whereas the woodwork of the case
is of a lesser standard.
Any information about the origins of the
organ would be gratefully received. In rural Anglican churches of that
time, significant expenses were usually met by a local benefactor, frequently
the Lord of the Manor. The Benyon family held the lordship of the Manor
of Grazeley. |
