Work in Progress
The pedal Bourdon Stop
| Organs at St Gregory’s | ![]() |
The art of organ building encompasses skills both ancient and modern. The wiring of the electromagnets and the computerised action are clearly modern, whereas the scorching method of countersinking the soundboard to seat the pipes is ancient. It should be pointed out the Richard is not in his home kitchen; this is part of his workshop! The work will soon move to St Gregory's, and decisions about the console layout are being taken as the day for work to begin on site approaches. We are also beginning to think about a day for the formal blessing and opening of the organ to take place. We will be looking forward to welcoming some of the people from Grazeley, who, we hope will be pleased to see their old organ in its new location, and ready to sing the praises of God "in deep tone" for many years to come. Meanwhile, the date for demolition of the present organ draws near. We are expecting to begin this work on February 9th (1 week away). |
