Work in Progress

Building the clamp is a complicated process

Organs at St Gregory’s

As well as boring out the holes very accurately, the top of the soundboard has to be prepared for the slider, making sure that there is sufficient room for the pipes. This is complicated because the pipes vary in diameter; the longest ones also being wider, while the wind channels are of even width. Also grooves are cut between the holes of adjacent pipes so that there is no risk of wind leaking from one pipe to the next one, which would cause cacophony!
