| Organs at St Gregory’s |

This complicated jig accurately drills out
the wood for the clamp which will be attached to the back of the Swell
soundboard, and carry the pipes for the reed stop. The exact design of
the reed pipes has been a complicated business, as it must blend in appropriately
with the French voicing of the rest of the organ. In larger organs there
would be several reed stops, each serving different purposes in the overall
sound. The risk of trying to produce a compromise in one stop is that
none of the objectives will be adequately met. However, we hope that what
is being specially made, modelled on a stop at Farnborough Abbey, will
provide all that we need. |
